We will go through a number of hand to foot transitions, using variations of entries from moves such as steves, angel rolls, and shoulder propellers. Foot pressure locks and fishtails. Kick-ups in two directions. Will provide loaner staffs.
This course introduces the fundamentals of lower body contact staff work. It includes conditioning and tips to take home about how to work up to more advanced moves. It focuses on classes of movement (rolls, wraps, traps) that participants are already familiar with in upper body work in order to provide them with a toolset to create their own combinations. Sample course content: Leg and hip stretches, static rolling, leg and waist wraps, foot lifts and tosses, knee wraps. Recommend wearing pants that you have a lot of mobility in (they don’t have to be yoga pants, I just don’t recommend jeans) and lightweight or flexible shoes.
Learn how to do the Matrix, with a focus on the horizontal plane and an introduction to vertical. A series of stretches to warm the body will turn into the motions needed to execute the shoulder propellers and neck wraps. Learn to drill from various entry points to fix your glitch points quicker. Why both directions are important. Intro to matrix entries from other moves. Loaner props available.
This course will cover contact staff techniques that require two people. We will warm up with some safe, controlled ways to pass the staff and move on to review passing techniques for different families of moves (Steve, Halo, and Angel). There are moves that are accessible for beginners and variations for more advanced students. There is much to be explored when two people use a single staff.
